ash content

The mineral content of paper, board or cardboard, but also of pulp, wood pulp and recovered paper is described by the ash content. In this process, a corresponding sample is burned and the residue is subsequently annealed (incinerated). The ash content of a paper is the percentage of the residual material after heating in relation to the oven-dried sample. However, the filler content must not be confused with the ash content, because in the course of ashing at the high temperatures, loss on ignition occurs, which varies greatly with the different fillers and coating pigments.
