bursting strength

Bursting strength is also called bursting pressure. It is the resistance of a circularly clamped sample of paper or board at the moment of bursting. Bursting strength is a characteristic used to characterize, in particular, liner papers and packaging materials. The bursting index is defined as the bursting pressure in relation to the weight per unit area. Determining the bursting pressure requires little time, which is why the measurement is often used for quality control during production.
